Kenya Diaspora Advisory Council Members Meets to lay out the Agenda for 2012
Kenyans in Boston under the Name Kenya Diaspora Advisory council of New England, a chapter of the Kenya Diaspora Advisory Council USA (DAC) met at a leading multi-cuisine restaurant called Karibu in Waltham Massachusetts to discuss the just concluded Jamhuri Day Celebration and also to strategize on how the Diaspora can be relevant in the current political discourse in Kenya.
According to the group, the 2011 Jamhuri day celebration and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Townhall meeting that was held in Lowell/Boston Massachusetts was a huge milestone. The meeting was attended by the IEBC team led by the chairman Issack Hassan and the Kenyan Ambassador to the USA H.E Elkanah Odembo. The Jamhuri celebrations became a place where Kenyan came to display different colors of diversity, talents and patriotism.
Although there was a consensus in the room that the event was successful beyond measure, the members also agreed that more time should be devoted to the Q&A session so that Kenyans can have the opportunity to ask government officials the tough questions. As for the way forward, the group has a very aggressive agenda for 2012 and is inviting all the Kenyans in Boston and New England area to join the council and forge a united front to advocate for the rights of the Kenyans in Diaspora as accorded by the new constitution. These include but not limited to voters education, voters registration, voting, issuing of new kenya s identification cards and PIN numbers, speedy issuance of Kenyans passports and travel documents among other things.
The Kenya Diaspora Advisory council USA with the leadership of Kenya Diaspora Advisory council of New England is working on organizing presidential debates/town-hall meetings for all of the 2012 presidential candidates. This will provide a forum for an independent political dialogue that will help the voters indetify leaders based on issues and not tribal affiliations. The council will organize national debates/town-hall meetings that will see the candindates tour the USA and meet with kenyans in all the key states. We will keep you posted on the specific dates and venue. Please click here to learn more

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has told Kenyans living in the United States that he will fight corruption and expand the economy if elected president.
Addressing Kenyans in Boston, Mr Musyoka said the next government will tap into those in the Diaspora to help grow the economy through remittances currently topping 1 billion USD (Sh84 billion)
"You work hard to remit billions of shillings home, it is important now that the next government which I hope to lead will tap your ideas, creativity and innovation to propel the country forward”, Mr Musyoka told hundreds of Kenyans gathered at the Boston Marriott Hotel at the start of his tour that will also take him to Texas, Atlanta, Minneapolis and Washington DC.
The VP praised Kenyans abroad saying they have been at the forefront in the agitation for more civil liberties in the country, which have now been realized through the enactment of a new Constitution.
“We know and acknowledge our past – the good and the bad. We seek leadership so as to correct mistakes of the past and build on the successes," he said. click here to read more
